Narrative
WASHINGTON, DC – A collision involving a D.C. police cruiser and three other vehicles at 14th and U streets in Northwest D.C. on Monday afternoon left 5 people injured, one of them seriously.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:45 p.m., just across the street from D.C. Fire and EMS headquarters.
The police officer in the cruiser was responding to a call with lights and sirens activated when the crash occurred. Medics transported the injured parties to a hospital, which included one seriously injured man, two women, one man with non-life-threatening injuries, and a young girl.
It remains unclear if the police officer was among those injured in the collision. Bystanders, including nearby firefighters, rushed to aid the victims until additional rescue personnel arrived. Photos from the scene depict a gray van overturned with a shattered front windshield.
The D.C. police stated that the officer had the cruiser’s lights and sirens activated at the time of the accident.
