WASHINGTON, D.C. – An elderly man died Wednesday in a solo crash near the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge in D.C.
The incident happened around 2 a.m. on South Capitol Street. This is on the south side of Washington D.C.
Police say the 89-year-old driver left the roadway and drove into a ditch after losing control of his vehicle. He died after transport to a local hospital.
Authorities identified the victim as John Alfonso Candela. They say Candela had been missing from his home in Maryland since the day before.
