Narrative
WASHINGTON D.C. – A 47-year-old man sustained fatal injuries Tuesday when two vehicles struck him along the highway in southwest Washington D.C.
The accident happened shortly after 11:30 p.m. on DC-295 northbound near Pennsylvania Avenue, which is near Anacostia Park and Twining Square.
Police say that both a northbound 2005 Chrysler Sebring and a northbound 2013 Toyota Avalon struck a man along the highway.
The victim had been a passenger in a 2017 GMC Sierra pickup truck. The driver of the pickup parked on the side of the highway so that he and the victim could adjust the a cover on the bed of the truck. The accident happened while they were standing alongside the pickup truck on DC-295.
The driver of the GMC did not sustain injuries. The passenger, since identified as Edward Pearson, died after transport to an area hospital.
Medics transported the driver of the Toyota to an area hospital with minor injuries.
